Fluid Flows in Complex Media

Understanding the mechanisms of how fluids flow in porous and fractured rocks is of prime importance for many geological processes where fluid is naturally present (earthquakes, magmatic intrusions, aquifers) or artificially injected in the subsurface, as in the process of carbon capture and storage or the exploitation of geothermal reservoirs. Njord's researchers aim at gaining a greater understanding of the mechanisms involved in fluid flow in complex natural and man-made porous solids. The research involves, among others, researchers of the Oslo branch of PoreLab at the Njord Centre.
