Materialkjemi; Uorganisk kjemi, fysikalsk kjemi og elektrokjemi vedrørende faste stoffer, spesielt funksjonelle oksider og andre keramiske stoffer for bruk ved høy temperatur. Defekter, diffusjon og ionisk ledningsevne. Protoner og andre hydrogendefekter i oksider; protonledere. Faststoff-gass-elektrokjemi, fotoelektrokjemi, termoelektrisitet. Oksidasjon og nedbrytning av metaller og andre materialer. Applikasjoner omfatter høytemperatur keramiske brenselceller og gass-separasjonsmembraner, hydrogenteknologi og karbonfangst, vannsplitting og vannrensing med sollys, samt termoelektriske generatorer.
