Sverre is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the CRCbiome project and a member of the Bioinformatics in Life Science – BiLS consortium. His work focuses on developing novel computational methods for comprehensive viral identification from metagenomic data and modeling longitudinal microbiome data for biomarker discovery and generative machine learning. The aim of this work is to understand how microbiome factors affect colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and, ultimately, to improve early detection, which can lead to significantly better patient outcomes.

He is an expert in microbial metagenomics and its clinical applications. He holds a PhD in computational biology and a Master of Science in molecular biology and has contributed to several novel bioinformatics tools and high-impact metagenomics studies. His primary areas of expertise include the development of novel bioinformatics and machine-learning algorithms; the design of scalable software tools using low-level programming; large-scale multi-omics biostatistics and machine-learning analysis; microbiome–disease interactions; antibiotic resistance; and clinical translation. Sverre is professionally committed to transdisciplinary and international collaboration through open science and free and open-source software (FOSS). His previous collaborators have included the Advanced Imaging Lab at Harvard University (USA), the Medical Microbiome-Metagenome Unit at the Institute of Medical Microbiology (Germany), the Functional Genomics Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (India), and the European Association of Urology.
