On Saturday 26th of November, 2022, the Hylleraas Centre co-organised the event “Hvorfor Det?” with the parents’ board of the primary school Ila Skole in Oslo. “Hvorfor Det?” is a Norwegian non-governmental, non-profit organisation that promotes scientific research by appealing to the curiosity of children. The concept encourages children to use the scientific method to find out anything they wonder about.

This year, 60 school children aged 8 to 12 years, some working in pairs others individually, presented their research at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo. Awards were given for “Excellent Research” and “Most Entertaining Project” based on evaluations by professional researchers, including Audun Skau Hansen, Håkon Emil Kristiansen, and Thomas Bondo Pedersen from the Hylleraas Centre, and the “Audience Award” based on votes from the roughly 200 participants.
