In summer 2024, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science at the University of Oslo and the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, signed an agreement on Strategic Partnership on Quantum Technology. The first meeting between scientists at the two institutions was organized at the Niels Bohr Institute on October 29-30, 2024. Thomas Bondo Pedersen presented the research carried out at the Hylleraas Centre, emphasizing the links between quantum information theory and quantum chemistry and discussing how this might broadly impact research in theoretical and computational chemistry.
The meeting focused not only on research but also on education at all levels from secondary school to university education and continuing education, a prerequisite for the ongoing second quantum revolution.
The talks were given in the historical Auditorium A, where the first quantum revolution was kick-started by famous scientists like Niels Bohr, Paul Dirac, and Werner Heisenberg. In a photo from a 1933 physics meeting displayed in Auditorium A, a familiar Norwegian giant appears alongside his peers: Egil A. Hylleraas.
