The Annual meeting with science and Northern Lights

This edition of the Annual Meeting was attended by 43 participants, mainly Hylleraas members and affiliates but we were joined by several external speakers as well. After a brief overview on the Hylleraas Centre by Thomas Bondo Pedersen, the meeting was kicked off with a workshop covering the broad topic of visualization in scientific works given by Kess Marks and Moa Kristiansson from Visualize your Science. The workshop ended with a talk focusing on poster design and afterwards we could use that newly acquired knowledge in a poster session.

During the poster session the young researchers of the center presented their ongoing work. This concluded the busy scientific part, and we ended the first day enjoying a barbecue at the nearby lake.

The second day was opened by Bror-Magnus S. Strand and Gulbrand Stålet Nilsen from the UiT library with a talk on open science, data management and the new online research information repository solution, NVA. Their talk was followed by another invited talk given by Gabriel Gerez and Jørn Dietze from the HPC group at UiT. Gabriel and Jørn gave a brief overview on slurm scripts, data handling and general best practices.

After a well-deserved break with outstandingly good weather, we continued with the traditional 5-minute presentations, this time with reversed roles. For the first time at a Hylleraas Annual Meeting, the senior researchers of the center gave us an overview on their research in this format.

The evening session was concluded with a talk by Odile Eisenstein who took us with her on her life journey though science with a lot of personal insight and valuable advice.

To end the meeting with a real highlight, most of us could enjoy the Northern Lights dancing over the Malangen fjord after the banquet dinner.
