Skibotn, April 20th to 24th 2026.
Community-building with social highlights
The Skibotn Hackathon, an annual tradition organized by the Tromsø node of the Hylleraas Centre, once again provided members and affiliates the opportunity to step away from their daily routines to focus on anything from manuscript writing to code optimization and bug hunting.
This year’s event saw a turnout of 23 participants. A highlight of the week was the visit of Dr. Mathieu Linares from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, a guest of the Young Researcher Parliament (YRP) Tromsø. On Tuesday, Dr. Linares delivered a seminar for the entire Hylleraas Centre, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the visualization software VIAMD.
The seminar served as a catalyst for the following days, where the planned workshop and subsequent collaboration resulted in valuable feedback and a roadmap for new features to be integrated into VIAMD.
As is tradition at Skibotn, the open program ensured that the week was as much about community-building as it was about research. Participants enjoyed several social highlights, including a grill night at the field station’s barbecue hut and an excellent and highly competitive quiz prepared by Tonje R. Haugen, Dr. Inga L. Schmidtke and Dr. Ryan Wilkins.
We thank all participants for their contributions to another successful year in Skibotn and look forward to seeing as many as possible next year for the final Skibotn Hackathon!
