Biography

Dr. Nalini Puniamoorthy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS), focusing on biodiversity and evolutionary biology, particularly sexual selection and speciation. Dr. Puniamoorthy completed her undergraduate and master's degrees at NUS, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She then pursued postdoctoral research at Syracuse University in the USA.

She currently leads the Reproductive Evolution Lab at NUS and her team investigates how reproductive traits evolve and contribute to insect biodiversity. They employ various experimental techniques, including field studies, quantitative genetics, and next-generation sequencing, to study ecologically relevant insects such as mosquitoes, dung beetles, and black soldier flies. Her work has practical applications in areas like sustainable food waste management and vector control. Dr. Puniamoorthy is also committed to science education and outreach, engaging with students and the public to promote scientific discourse.
