Academic interests

My education and research training in Evolutionary Biology and Global Change Ecology has made me be interested in assessing how global change factors may impact on interactions among trophic and biological organization levels, as well as how they can induce changes in organisms’ life-history strategies. These issues are considered following stoichiometric (Ecological and Biological Stoichiometry) and metabolic (Metabolic Theory of Ecology) approaches. Concerning this, my postdoctoral research is focused on the integration of both theoretical frameworks to assess the effects of resources and temperature on different model species of consumers (“Blending stoichiometric and metabolic theories from genes to populations: Resource stochiometry and temperature effects on consumers with contrasting life-history strategies”), under supervision of Prof. Dag Olav Hessen (University of Oslo), Prof. Elena Gorokhova (University of Stockholm), and Prof. John Kenneth Colbourne (University of Birmingham).

Background

In 2004, I graduated in Biology (University of Granada), with an excellent average grade. After having studied two high standing PhD programmes in the Universities of Valencia and Granada and benefited from an “University Professorship Training” PhD Fellowship (Spanish Ministry of Education and Science), I got my PhD degree (mark: Summa Cum Laude) in 2013 (University of Granada) with the thesis (with international mention) titled: “Interactive Effects of UVR and Nutrients on the Primary Producer-Consumer Interaction: An Ecological-Evolutionary Perspective”. As a result of the hard work carried out during my doctorate (11 research projects, 2 stays at Stockholm University, etc.), 19 high quality manuscripts were published in high standing journals, 51 oral talks and posters were presented in national and international scientific popularization events, as well as I was awarded with several research awards. The quality of my academic and research background together with my teaching experience and my additional education in multidisciplinary issues (e.g. languages and business management) were positively evaluated by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport) for different positions of university professor, as well as by the European Commission for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral position to work in the University of Oslo during the period 2015-2019.
