Academic interests

I am a behavioural neuroscientist interested in 1) translational cognition and the influence of risk genes on cognitive function in animal models of psychiatric disease, and 2) the neural circuitry of perception and memory. In particular, I want to understand the interactions between areas in the visual ventral stream and the perirhinal cortex within a defined theoretical framework.

 

Techniques include rodent touchscreen operant chambers combined with in vivo electrophysiological recordings and optogenetic and DREADDs-mediated control of neural circuits, as well as microinfusions of pharmacological agents, transgenic mouse lines and hand run behavioural tasks. 

 

I completed my PhD in behavioural neuroscience at Cardiff University with Prof Mark Good and Dr Emma Kidd, working on immunotherapy for Alzheimer's disease in transgenic mouse models and primary neuronal cell culture. My previous postdoctoral position was with Profs Lisa Saksida, Tim Bussey and Trevor Robbins at the University of Cambridge, focusing on developing new methods for assessing cognition in rodent models of schizophrenia using touchscreen operant chambers on an EU grant with a number of industrial partners.  

 

I am happy to consider new Master students (co-supervised by Marianne Fyhn) who wish to work on the neural circuits of cognition using a combination of the techniques described above. Please get in touch if you are interested.
