Peptide ligand- receptor interactions in the model system Arabidopsis thaliana

By using the Arabidopsis mutant inflorescence deficient in abscission (ida) we are trying to decipher the signaling pathway that controls cell separation during floral abscission. IDA encodes a putative peptide ligand that interacts with two receptor-like kinases, HAESA and HAESA-LIKE2, to activate and inhibit members of the KNOX family of transcription factors.

We are currently using genetic screens and biochemical approaches to investigate the role of IDA-LIKE (IDL) and HAESA-LIKE (HSL) genes in other cell separation and developmental events in Arabidopsis.
