Background
Before joining IBV, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre of Molecular Inflammation Research (CEMIR), NTNU, and at the Department of Pathology, University of Oslo. During my time in Norway, I employed innovative approaches in infection biology, tissue engineering, and both human and mouse organoid technologies. This work has led to publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, including PLOS Pathogens and Science Immunology.
My research focuses on the gut as a key site of infection by diverse pathogens, each triggering distinct immune responses necessary for control and clearance. I am particularly interested in how the intestinal epithelium regulates these immune responses, and conversely, how immune signaling shapes epithelial function. By investigating this bidirectional communication, my goal is to uncover critical mechanisms that govern host-pathogen interactions and maintain gut homeostasis.
To address these questions, I apply a broad range of techniques including bulk RNA sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing, ATAC-seq, intestinal organoid cultures, flow cytometry, and advanced microscopy.
In addition to research, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring. I actively supervise master’s students and welcome those interested in gut biology and the development of organoid-based models.
