The tumor microenvironment is characterized by many different stress factors, such as hypoxia, anoxia, low pH, amino acid deprivation and glucose starvation. My project focus on stress response pathways in prostate cancer, in particular endoplasmatic reticulum (ER) stress. Under conditions of ER stress, misfolded proteins accumulate in the ER lumen. To cope with this stress, the cell activates different signaling pathways collectively called the unfolded protein response (UPR). I explore the molecular mechanisms of these pathway in prostate cancer using in vitro and in vivo approaches.
