The research group Technology and Sustainable Futures (Department of Informatics) would like to invite you to the workshop: Relations and Technology -- How Do We Relate to and Value Technology? (with Professor David Gunkel). The workshop will bring into dialogue three alternative perspectives related to how we value and understand technologies´ embedding in the social, ecological, and epistemic spheres.

Professor David Gunkel is a philosopher and ethicist of technology. He has written extensively on robots and artificial intelligence, exploring questions of value, communication, and the challenge of evolving existing legal frameworks to deal with an era of increasingly complex and capable computational technologies.

This workshop will bring David´s thinking into contact with Henrik Skaug Sætra´s recent work rethinking human-AI-environment relations from the perspective of Arne Næss´ deep ecology, and Enya Rogerson´s doctoral research project on alien theory and human transformation.

An image of a man playing banjo with different image partitioning methods. The ViT partitions an image into square blocks, the Voronoi tesselations produce random convex polygons, and the superpixels partition the image adaptively capturing local shapes of the image.

The Vision Transformer (ViT) signifies a new direction in modelling spatial data, representing a shift in focus from local spatial interactions to global contextual relationships. Traditionally, ViTs partition images into square patches to extract tokenized features. But is this necessarily an optimal way of partitioning images for transformers?

Cardiac related disease is the number one cause of death in the Western world, including Norway. Echocardiography is the most important imaging tool for the cardiologist to assess cardiac function. An echo examination of the heart is real time, cost effective and can be performed without discomfort to the patient and without harmful radiation. These are great advantages compared to other medical imaging modalities.
