Summary:
The respondents in general found this course to be Good. Most students rated the difficulty as OK to Easy, and the workload as OK. Some students expressed there should be more Obligatory assignments and Assessments underway (part of the examination).
The participants felt the discussions held in class were a good opportunity for them to practice their oral skills, and to express their views. There are however some students who would have wanted for more practical work, perhaps in the shape of a research paper.
Quotes:
Lectures are very important in this course, hence the 80% participation requirement. There are no group sessions, since all the discussions are held in class.
The professor should implement practical writing of a research paper in the subject “Research papers”. The lack of practical work is thought to be compensated with delivering presentations about foreign researches, instead of using the given time to produce own research and assess the homework adequately.
The discussions held in class were intriguing and made sure most students remained interested in the course.
[…] It would be thoughtful to add a larger written home exam or assignment instead of an exam for this course in particular.
What is the point of having 80% attendance if it counts as attendance by showing up the last ten minutes. This makes it harder to have good discussions when not everyone participates.
About the course evaluation
The course evaluation is done by students in FUI (Fagutvalget ved Institutt for informatikk), and is based on questionnaires made at the end of each semester.
