Summary:

The respondents in general found this course to be Good. Most students rated the difficulty as being OK. The workload in proportion to the number of credits achieved is Large. The quality of the lectures is rated as Good, and the online course presentation is rated as Very good.

Several of the respondents express a lack of information throughout the course, both when it came to the grading of the group project and the curriculum for the written exam. According to the students, the curriculum for the written exam was also given too late in the semester, leaving the students with a lot of information to read in a very short time.

Quotes:

Group project: Did not tell us how it would be graded, which made it hard to decide what aspects of it to prioritize. Examination: Questions did not cover the curriculum by a long shot. In addition they were vague. The last question regarding the group project did not fit all of the projects. Our project used little API, and we were to discuss the usage of the API in our project.
The group assignment was too open. It should have been more clearly defined.
It seemed like most of the final examination and project exam where poorly planned. Most of the curriculum was handed to us about two weeks prior to the final exam. As for the project, we were told first AFTER delivery what they would rate our delivery based off of, which is ridiculous…
Way too much with 2 mandatory assignments, a big project and a final exam. If you insist of having the written exam, remove one of the mandatory assignments, begin the project earlier and make time to actually lecture the exam material […]
The curriculum for the written exam was very poorly defined. A lot of articles were given, but we were told that “you don’t have to read all of them, since they will not all be a part of the exam”. This does not help, since we did not know which articles would be relevant for the exam, so we had to read them all anyhow. The curriculum was given late in the semester, which meant there were hundreds of pages to read in a short period of time. A written exam of this size plus a big assignment made the course more time consuming than I think it was intended to be.

About the course evaluation

The course evaluation is done by students in FUI (Fagutvalget ved Institutt for informatikk), and is based on questionnaires made at the end of each semester.
