Job allocation (virtualization) in large-scale (100 cores) multicore chips

40

Networks on chip is one of the enabling technologies for future large-scale multicore chips in everything from mobile computing to high-performance computing. Full utilisation of these chips requires an understanding of the relationships between the on-chip routing algorithms and the applications that run on it.

A master thesis within this field can cover one of multiple subjects. These subjects include the relationship of routing algorithms to allocation algorithms, studying the effects of thermal issues on job placements, and job migration, amongst others.

The work will to a large extent be carried out through simulations, and some of the simulation tools required for the studies will be developed by the candidate.

This work is closely related to the NaNoC project at Simula.
