Professor and Centre Director of the Centre of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN)
Academic Interests
My research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new and advanced inorganic materials, particularly at the nanoscale, with applications in catalysis, energy conversion and storage, and biomedical technologies. I investigate how a material’s atomic arrangement, elemental distribution, morphology, and surface properties influence its functional properties and reaction mechanisms, employing in-situ and operando techniques such as STM, XPS, TEM, PND, and (synchrotron) XRD.
Current research activities include:
- Photoelectrochemical and electrochemical water splitting (OER and HER)
- Hydrogen storage and liquefaction
- Ammonia oxidation for NOx abatement
- Noble metal capture at Ostwald process conditions
- Fundamental surface science studies
- Development and application of plasmonic nanoparticles and quantum dots for biomedical applications.
