Strategic competency

How can good solutions become reality? In the work for a sustainable future, it is not enough to know what should be done, one must also know how the best alternatives can be put into practice. It requires knowledge of decision-making processes and how to get important information to the right actors.

What is strategic competency?

Strategic competence is about

  • understand "how to get things done" in different parts of society
  • be able to develop and implement innovations and measures that promote sustainability in interaction with stakeholders and decision-makers

Strategic competency in a MN-context

Often the role of natural scientists and realists in decision-making processes is to investigate, make quantitative analyzes and develop technical solutions. In order for decision-makers from other disciplines to be able to use this in a good way, they must receive information that is appropriate and understandable. This requires that the person preparing the information must be familiar with who will use the information, and how the information should be presented in order to be understandable. It is therefore important that our candidates gain knowledge of decision-making processes in society and training in scientific communication to various target groups.

Examples of teaching activities

  • Scientific dissemination through various genres to specified target groups Interaction with user groups
  • Guest lectures to gain knowledge of market mechanisms and actors that are relevant to the subject
  • Case-driven project tasks that provide knowledge of decision-making processes
