The understanding of cellular processes and physiological function of living animals, including humans, is key in our research and teaching efforts. Our research interests range from understanding fundamental principles of cell biology and physiological processes to the interface with biomedicine to develop improved treatments of diseases. Molecular mechanisms of cell trafficking and membrane function are essential to understand how proteins are transported to specific locations within the cell or on the cell membrane where they play key roles in e.g. cellular signaling and immune regulation.
Advanced microscopy and imaging techniques are pivotal to many of the research projects and a core facility on sub-cellular imaging (NorMic) is located in the section. The section hosts the Centre for Integrative Neuroplasticity (CINPLA) which is one of the prioritized interdiciplinary research activities at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
