  2. Postdoctoral fellow in theoretical chemistry/computational chemistry developing multiscale modelling methods for the understanding of spectroscopic processes in a wide frequency range.
  3. Postdoctoral fellow in physical chemistry (experimental/computational) using of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) for the structural characterization of chiral molecules, with emphasis of cyclic peptides in the middle space.
  4. PhD fellow in theoretical/computational chemistry developing quantum-chemical methods and/or the application of such methods to problems in biology, chemistry, or materials science.

Postdoctoral fellow in theoretical chemistry

The Hylleraas Centre and the Department of Chemistry at UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position vacant for a fixed-term position of three years. The position is attached to the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences, a Norwegian Centre of Research Excellence.

The successful candidate is expected to work on developing multiscale modelling methods for the understanding of spectroscopic processes in a wide frequency range for a range of different systems, from solvated molecules to large biomolecular complexes. The successful candidate is in particular expected to continue the development of polarizable embedding and polarizable density embeddings method for the study of advanced vibrational spectroscopies and the extension of the approach to magnetic and X-ray spectroscopies.

The candidate can expect to be involved in the supervision of Master and PhD students in the group in an amount equivalent to maximum 25 % of a full-time employment.

Qualifications

For appointment as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the applicant is required to hold a Norwegian doctoral degree theoretical/computationel chemistry or molecular physics or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in theoretical chemistry, computational materials science or physics, or applied mathematics. Previous programming experience in a prerequisite, and knowledge of the Fortran and Python will be considered favourably. Previous experience with method development in theoretical chemistry or computational physics/materials science will be considered an advantage, as well as previous experience with both quantum and classical methods for describing molecular systems.

Application deadline is May 25 2021. Applications must be submitted through the jobbnorge.no website below, where also more information about the position can be found. Follow this link: JobbNorge.no

Postdoctoral fellow in theoretical/computational chemistry

The Hylleraas Centre and the Department of Chemistry at UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position vacant for a fixed-term position of three years. The position is attached to the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences, a Norwegian Centre of Research Excellence, and to the research project “EPR and paramagnetic NMR of solids from relativistic two- and four-component density-functional theory”.

The successful candidate is expected to work on developing the theoretical framework and its implementation for the calculation of solid-state paramagnetic nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (pNMR) of doublet systems in a two- and four-component relativistic framework based on Gaussian-type integrals. This work will involve the implementation of new one- and two-electron Fock components, the development of a novel DFT non-collinear exchange-correlation parametrization as well as coupled-perturbed Kohn-Sham equations for solids. The methodology will be implemented in the computer program ReSpect, and applied to relevant materials science problems. The work may involve co-supervising a PhD student to be hired on the project as well as interact with other project members in the development of the project.

Qualifications

For appointment as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the applicant is required to hold a Norwegian doctoral degree in the subject area or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in theoretical/computational chemistry or physics, computational materials science, or applied mathematics. Previous programming experience in a prerequisite. Previous experience with method development in theoretical chemistry/physics or computational physics/materials science will be considered an advantage, as well as experience with the modelling of solid-state systems.

Postdoctoral fellow in physical chemistry

The Department of Chemistry has a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position vacant for a fixed-term position of two years.. The position is attached to the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences, a Norwegian Centre of Research Excellence, and to the research project “Digital discovery of antimicrobial molecules from marine Arctic resources with reduced risk of triggering resistance (Digibiotics)”.

The successful candidate is expected to perform research in the use of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) for the structural characterization of chiral molecules, and to study the use of VCD in understanding the interaction of chiral molecules with membranes and nanodiscs. Chiral molecules will be provided by the Digibiotics pipeline, and may be arctic marine products or synthetic compounds based on cyclic peptides in the middle space. The majority of the work will be experimental, but may also involve computational studies (ab initio and/or classical MD simulations).

Qualifications

For appointment as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the applicant is required to hold a Norwegian doctoral degree Physical Chemistry or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

The candidate is expected to have extensive experience with vibrational (infrared) spectroscopy and the analysis of vibrational spectra. Previous experience with vibrational circular dichroism will be considered particularly relevant, but experience with other chiroptical spectroscopies or spectroscopic tools for exploring molecular structure and intermolecular interactions, as well as experience with computational modelling, will be considered

Application deadline is May 25 2021. Applications must be submitted through the jobbnorge.no website below, where also more information about the position can be found: JobbNorge.no
