Academic interests
I am a PhD student at AQUA hired on the Coastal Ecosystem Dynamics under anthropogenic pressures research project. My research is focused on the lower trophic levels and microbial loop and trying to gather new knowledge using morphological, molecular and experimental tools. You can read more about my ongoing research and the aims of my project by clicking here.
I am fascinated by phytoplankton and the role they play in the marine food web and I look forward to further investigating the ecological roles the lower trophic levels play in the ocean!
Popular Science
I am additionally very passionate about science communication, and I strongly believe that science should be relevant, understandable and approachable for the general public. During my PhD I aim to actively contribute to the broader scientific outreach of the university. Here you can see some of my popular science contributions through radio, TV or newspapers:

Background
I completed my BSc here at IBV in 2019 and my MSc in 2021. For my MSc I was supervised by Luka Supraha, Bente Edvardsen and Tom Andersen. During my thesis, I worked with Arctic diatoms from sea-ice associated protist communities. The six strains of diatoms I used during my project were analyzed morphologically and molecularly. Additionally, I performed two high-throughput multi stressor growth experiments to attempt to get an idea as to how the various sea-ice communities of microalgae might react to changing Arctic conditions.
Teaching
I have taught in the following courses offered at IBV:
- BIOS1150 Biodiversity
- BIOS2220 Aquatic Biodiversity
- BIOS4301 Marine Benthic Ecology
- BIOS4400 Pelagic Ecology
- BIOS5311 Marine Algae Systematics and Ecology
- BIOS5316 Toxic Algae
- MNKOM3000 Science Communication
Norwegian Biology Olympics (Biologiolympiaden)
I am the project coordinator for the Biology Olympics (Biologiolympiaden) that is arranged here at IBV every year for high school students across the country. Starting with about 1100 students across Norway, we will after the final round have chosen the top 4 students who will represent Norway at the International Biology Olympics competition that occurs during the summer months.
- 2023 Biology Olympics will be in Kazakhstan
- 2023 Biology Olympics was held in the United Arab Emirates
