Abstract: This is a retrospective talk which will concentrate mainly on my work with green bacteria over a period of 50 years; how we studied various aspects of the biochemistry and the molecular biology of these organisms.
In the first part I will go through the different techniques we used in order to solve the mechanisms of CO2 fixation in Chlorobium and Chloroflexus. The second part of the talk will be concerned with how we used malate dehydrogenase from green bacteria as an object to study the molecular basis of thermophily. The importance of access to new techniques and methods will be emphasized.
