To 1st semester Master students!

This is the first of a seminar series for Geoscience master students given by the Department of Geosciences and the Science Library. The series run parallel with your master studies over the course of four semesters.

Please register below before the deadline: Wednesday October 26 at 9am if you are registering for the 31st of October & Friday October 28 at 9am if you are registering for the 3rd of November!

The aims of the seminars are to:

  • develop your professional competencies
  • support you in achieving your goals with your master studies
  • inspire and support you in carrying out your research and
  • to meet your peers.

The seminars will include hands-on practices, discussions, invited lecturers, social activities, help desks and more.

Subjects such as literature search, scientific writing and research data management – just to name a few – will be part of these seminars.

Time and place:

October 31st Monday, 12:15 – 14:00 and 14:15-16:00, Niels Henrik Abels hus Room 209

OR!

November 3rd Thursday, 12:15 – 14:00 and 14:15-16:00, Niels Henrik Abels hus Room 209

 

The seminar is given twice to ensure that you can attend. Both days are divided into two ca. 2 hours sessions.

You need to sign up for ONE 12:15-14:00 AND ONE 14:15-16:00 sessions. You may, for example, attend the 12:15-14:00 part on the 31st, and the 14:15-16:00 session on the 3rd, or both on the same day.

It is important that you sign up for the sessions you are attending because we will order food.

Please, if it’s possible, bring your laptop.

Program with breaks:

12:15-14:00 (same on both days, choose one of the days):

  • Welcome and introduction to the seminar & Lunch (provided by the Department of Geosciences)
  • Invited lecturer Mattias Lundmark from the department will give us a talk on Getting the most out of your masters
  • Your master project
  • Introduction to find, evaluate, use and cite scientific literature: the why, where and how with hands-on practices

14:15-16:00 (same on both days, choose one of the days):

  • Invited lecturer Tone Gadmar from The Science Library will give us a talk with the title: Building science
  • The basics of research data management: what, why and how
  • Working effectively with research data
  • The Research Data Management Plan
  • Fill out your DMP!

The research data management part is with Michael Heeremans.
