New master’s students started this August

We’re pleased to welcome Elvira Boström, Anders Mathias Rønneberg and Nelson Nicolai Jørgensen as new master’s students at the Hylleraas Centre in Oslo.

Welcome to our new master’s students

The students begin their master’s studies in the new Life Sciences Building. They will receive close academic supervision and be part of the centre’s scientific community.

Here is a short presentation of the master’s students.

Elvira Boström

– I studied the density matrix renormalization group algorithm and its quantum chemistry applications for my BSc, and my MSc builds on this by including dynamics.

Scientific focus of the master’s thesis: Electron dynamics with time-dependent orbitals and QC-DMRG.

Supervisor: Associate Professor Simen Kvaal.

Started as a master’s student in August 2026 for a two-year period.

Anders M. Rønneberg

– After finishing my degree in analytical chemistry at NMBU, I became increasingly interested in pursuing an academic career. By choosing CS:Chemistry, I hope to broaden my skill set by combining dry-lab and wet-lab experience, and hopefully giving me a highly sought-after combination of skills.

Scientific focus of the master’s thesis: It will involve training a neural network to model a cell membrane and its interactions with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs).

Supervisor: Professor Michele Cascella.

Started as a master’s student in August 2026 and will be studying full-time from next August. Expected to complete his degree by May 2028.

Nelson Nicolai Jørgensen

– I chose to study computational science because I think the methods by which we simplify complex, sometimes non solvable problems into solvable simpler problems, is fascinating.

I enjoy the numerical methods behind it and in a sense the creativity of it all!

The study of matter, from the perspective of chemistry, gives interesting insight into the properties and behaviour of everyday things we take for granted and I wanted a deeper insight into this.

Scientific focus of the master’s thesis: Molecules in magnetic fields.

Supervisor: Researcher Erik Ingemar Tellgren.

Started as a master’s student in August 2026 for a two-year period.
