Marine botany

Marine botany addresses all organisms in aquatic environments that are photosynthetic. Algae and seagrasses are increasingly important to understand as they are the primary producers in water.

About the group

Marine botany is a diverse group working with a wide range of organisms. They have photosynthesis in common, but apart from that they are genetically and morphologically quite different.

That being said they are important as primary producers in the ocean and they provide the habitat for many species.

The group is divided into two sub-groups:
