Section for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB)

BMB is a research and teaching environment which focuses on the biochemical and molecular understanding of fundamental processes of the living organisms from bacteria to mammals.

The research groups at BMB focus on the molecular understanding of fundamental biological processes and their regulation. Research areas include the regulation of gene expression at transcriptional, epigenetic, and post-transcriptional levels, as well as enzymatic activation and regulation including through post-translational modifications. We study these in the context of cellular differentiation, cell cycle, and intracellular signalling. Our research has important biomedical implications, ranging from cancer treatments to antibiotic resistance. Our approaches include genetics and genomics, molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, proteomics, and structural biology.
