Faglige interesser

Jeg leder sammen med Göran Nilsson forskergruppen som arbeider med komparativ fysiologi. Min overordnede interesse er respirationsfysiologi hos fisk, selvom der under de sidste par år har sneget sig en enkelt snegl ind. I min PhD studerede jeg effekten af hypoksi på luftåndende fisk, og interessen for hypoksi førte mig til Oslo, hvor jeg nu studerer effekten af anoksi og særligt re-oksygenering på karussen, omend på et mere molekylærbiologisk plan. Jeg har også været på ekspedition til Lizard Island, hvor vi har studeret effekten af klimaforandringer på hoppende snegle, forskning som fik opmærksomhed fra bl.a. New York Times (Sciencetake), Science News (Science Ticker and It’s Alive) og Discovery Channel Canada. Sideløbende har jeg også arbejdet med et projekt om den luftåndende Alaska blackfish, som bl.a. kom på forsiden af Journal of Experimental Biology (JEB Cover).

Bakgrunn

Jeg er uddannet biolog fra Sektionen for Zoofysiologi ved Århus Universitet i Danmark. Min bachelor grad fik jeg dog fra Sektionen for Økologi og Genetik i 2007, hvor jeg under et 5-måneder langt ophold på den caraibiske ø Domica studerede bestøvningsnetværket mellem blomster, insekter og kolibrier. På masterstudiet blev min interesse for komparativ fiskefysiologi for alvor vakt, og i kombination med min rejselyst gjorde det at jeg startede på et specialeprojekt om luftåndende fisk i Vietnam i 2007, et projekt som senere udviklede sig til et PhD-projekt, og jeg tilbragte næsten 2 år sammenlagt i Vietnam. Straks efter jeg fik min doktorgrad i 2012 flyttede jeg til Oslo, hvor jeg blev ansat i en midlertidig stilling som forsker i Prof. Göran E. Nilsson's forskingsgruppe, og har siden da arbejdet med den anoksitolerante karusse. Jeg fik siden støtte fra Carsbergfondet i Danmark til at fortsætte som gæsteforsker på projektet, efterfulgt af 3 år som postdoktor med støtte fra Norges Forskningsråd. I 2017 fikk jeg et Unge Forskertalenter prosjekt finansiert av Norges Forskningsråd, for å forske på de molekylære mekanismer bak anoksitoleranse og spesielt reoksygenering.

Samarbeid

Jeg arbejder sammen med Prof. Andy Cossins fra Liverpool i min forskning på karusse, hvor vi senest har sekvenseret transkriptomet. Derudover samarbejder jeg med Prof. Philip Munday fra James Cook University i Australien om projektet på Lizard Island, og med Assoc. Prof. Jonathan Stecyk fra University of Alaska Anchorage i USA om projektet på den luftåndende Alaska blackfish. Desuden har jeg stadig kontakt med min forhenværende vejledere Dr. Mark Bayley og Prof. Tobias Wang fra Zoofysiologi i Århus, angående deres videre forsking på luftåndende fisk i Vietnam.
