Digitalisation

The section for Digitalisation aims at producing and disseminating new knowledge on digital innovation, digital design, digital entrepreneurship, as well as the role of design in the sustainability of digital artefacts. In so doing, foundational components for our research is ‘engaged scholarship’ and ‘participatory design’ in order to contribute to both academic research as well as help solving problems for users and IT professionals.

The Section’s research often emphasizes the socio-technical complexity of digitalization and the individual, organizational and societal consequences of such processes. We seek to produce new theoretical understanding of the digitalization phenomena, for example regarding new digital services based on AI in public sector, or how different platform owners compete, or the consequences of digitalization of work processes for employees. However, equally important, we aim at giving designers, developers, IT leaders, and Governments concrete and novel advice and solutions to guide their digitalization efforts. Accordingly, in terms of teaching our goal is to educate students to act purposefully and responsibly in their future roles as designers, developers, users and managers of technology.

The Section consist of four different research groups which are: Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Design of Information Systems, and Regenerative Technologies. Hence, the Section adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to digitalization and publishes its results in various fields such as Information Systems (IS), CSCW, HCI, Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship.

The Section has an ambition of being one of the leading European research groups on digitalization, and a keen contributor in current national debates and international research communities.

Design of Information Systems (DESIGN)

The research group Design of Information Systems focuses on users' experiences with information technologies. Our research aims to show how knowledge about use and users gives a basis for design of (better) technological solutions that strengthen the autonomy and space for action of the users. Our research therefore also includes design and how designers can facilitate for users' participation in the design work.

Digital innovation (DIN)

The research group aims at producing and disseminating new knowledge on digital transformation and its consequences for individuals, organizations, and societies. In so doing, a foundational component for our research is ‘engaged scholarship’ aiming at contributing to both academic research as well as solving problems for users and IT professionals.

Entrepreneurship (ENT)

Entrepreneurship is both an important research as well as educational field. Start-up firms and entrepreneurial organizations are a critical source of economic development and novelty, and key for tackling contemporary societal challenges. We take a holistic view and seek to illuminate entrepreneurial phenomena and innovation processes at the societal, organizational, team and individual level by exploring various themes and theoretical perspectives.

Information Systems (IS)

The Information System research group is the research unit of the Health Information Systems Programme (HISP) and DHIS2. We position our research in the Information Systems field and more particularly as ICT4D.

Regenerative Technologies (RT)

LogoThe Regenerative Technologies research group aims to contribute to redirecting human modes of planetary habitation towards sustainment. We do that through a focus on the role of design in the sustainability of digital artefacts and the practices that they shape.
