ACADEMIC INTERESTS
Kirsten Sandvig is associated with Dept. of Biosciences, University of Oslo, Norway and Dept. Mol. Cell Biol. Institute for Cancer Research, The Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo University Hospital. She is also associated with CanCell, Centre for Cancer Cell Reprogramming. Sandvig has for many years been interested in mechanisms of endocytosis, intracellular transport and secretion. In some of our studies we have been using protein toxins such as ricin and Shiga toxin, which are well established as markers for studies of membrane traffic, and which can be used as agents in cancer diagnosis and therapy. In basic cell biology a focus has lately been on the role of lipid species. Since 2005 we have also used our expertise to investigate uptake of nanoparticles, both in vitro and in vivo. We have obtained several grants involving both national and international collaborations to build competence in nanomedicine. We aim at providing a rational basis for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
Kirsten Sandvig has published 357 articles (May 2024), and has an H-index of 80 (May 2024). The articles have been cited more than 22000 times.
