We work on antibiotics against resistant bacteria, anti-fungal agents, cancer medicine, and strive to understand how they work and how they can be "encapsulated" in nanoparticles for enhanced effect and stability. With us, you can engage in simple synthesis (peptide chemistry, polymer chemistry, "click chemistry") as well as more (bio)physical chemistry where we examine structure, dynamics, and thermodynamics. We use a lot of scattering techniques based on light, X-rays, and neutrons to image, for example, self-assembling nanostructures and models for cell membranes to, among other things, understand how medicine works on the nanoscale.
We have active collaborations with pharmacist, biologist and computational chemists and can also offer shared, inter-disciplinary projects
Examples of topics :
- Controlled self-assembly of polymers, lipids and peptides into well-defined, functional nanoparticles and gels.
- Lipid nanoparticles for delivery of antibiotics against resistant bacteria
- Interactions between antimicrobial peptides and model bacterial cells
- Nanomedical formulations of anti-fungi treatments
