Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 is the version of Linux offered at the department. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the only Linux platform supported by UiO and it provides UiO and the department of mathematics a unified platform between computing nodes, the Abel Cluster, servers, and desktop clients.

Slow network / Slow computer

After the transition to IP telephony we have had a few situations where the machines behind the phones have been slow. Often the problem is the phone itself and resetting the phone usually helps. At other times, using webmail towards mail.uio.no causes problems.

Through Microsoft's Imagine programme, students and employees at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences can acquire licensed copies of Microsoft software. The program includes Windows 8 and Windows 7 operating systems, designer and development tools such as Visual Studio and Visio, productivity applications such as OneNote, and much more.
