Ahmad Rafsanjani is a Professor of Soft Robotics in the Biorobotics section of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). He received his doctoral degree in 2013 from ETH Zurich. Prior to joining SDU, he held postdoctoral positions with Daminao Pasini at McGill University, Katia Bertoldi at Harvard University, and André Studart in Complex Materials at ETH Zurich. His research group at SDU Soft Robotics develops adaptive, flexible systems inspired by nature, often realized through kirigami- and origami-based metamaterials and composite materials for friction-driven limbless locomotion and soft robotic perception.

Jens Eggers is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Bristol, specializing in the analysis of singularities in nonlinear partial differential equations, with a particular focus on applications to fluid dynamics and hydrodynamics. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2009 for his contributions to singularities in free-surface flows. Eggers was awarded the Naylor Prize and Lectureship in 2023 for his contributions to the theoretical understanding of singularities of nonlinear partial differential equations.

The goal is to understand "Birational Invariants from Hodge Structures and Quantum Multiplication" by Katzarkov-Kontsevich-Pantev-YU. KKPY introduce new birational invariants called Hodge atoms. These are constructed by combining classical Hodge theory with quantum cohomology. They use it to prove that a very general cubic fourfold is not rational.

Aliaksandr Hubin is an Associate Professor in Statistics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and University of Oslo. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Oslo (2018) and specializes in Bayesian inference, machine learning, and statistical modeling. His research focuses on scalable and interpretable methods in Bayesian regression context, with particular expertise in latent binary Bayesian neural networks, Bayesian generalized nonlinear models.

Let X be a variety, and (F_n) a sequence of coherent sheaves on the n-th symmetric products Sym^n X. Following Okounkov, we consider the notion of (F_n) being factorisable. Roughly speaking, this means that over points of Sym^(m+n) X corresponding to the union of disjoint configurations in Sym^m X and Sym^n X, the sheaf F_{m+n} is the tensor product of F_m and F_n. Completing a partial argument by Okounkov, we show that if (F_n) is factorisable, then the generating function of Euler characteristics of F_n is the plethystic exponential of a generating function of Euler characteristics of sheaves on X. I'll explain why this is true and why it's useful.

Andrew is a postdoctoral researcher in Statistical Machine Learning at the University of Limerick, Ireland. His research interests centre on developing methods at the intersection of statistical modelling and machine learning. He completed his PhD in 2024 where his research focused on statistically-based methods for neural networks, with a particular focus on model selection and interpretation. After his PhD, he spent some time in the pharmaceutical industry, working on Phase 3 clinical trials in the immunology therapeutic area.

Kjetil Lysne Voje is a Norwegian evolutionary biologist and researcher at the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo. He earned a PhD in evolutionary biology from the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis at the University of Oslo. His research focuses on how new species form, how species are related through evolutionary “family trees,” and how quickly organisms adapt to environmental changes. In 2008–2009, he retraced the South American journey of Charles Darwin to celebrate the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species.

The distance matrix of a tree appears in a range of contexts, from phylogenetics to physical chemistry. I will describe a new result about the spectrum of this matrix, one that gives affirmative answer to two questions about matroid positivity properties. These are both strengthenings of Mason's conjectures about the log-concavity of sequence of numbers of independent sets of a matroid, proposed by Igor Pak and by Giansiracusa, Rincón, Schleis, Ulirsch, respectively.

At the heart is a characterization of the gross substitutes property from economics in terms of the Lorentzian property of a generating function.

This is joint work with Federico Ardila-Mantilla, Sergio Cristancho, Chris Eur, June Huh, and Botong Wang.

Juliette Lacherez is a PhD candidate in the Théorie de la Matière Condensée group within Statistical Physics at Université de Bordeaux, working under the supervision of Thomas Salez and Yacine Amarouchène. Her research focuses on numerical approaches to complex physical systems, using simulations as a powerful tool to test theoretical models beyond experimental constraints. She primarily works with Langevin simulations to study nontrivial systems such as active swimmers in confined flows and colloids diffusing near deformable, fluctuating boundaries.
