Faglige interesser

Tradisjonelt har legemidler blitt utviklet for å passe "gjennomsnitts-pasienten". I dag kan vi i teorien skreddersy medikamentell behandling til den enkelte pasient basert på genotyping, bestemmelse av biomarkører, måling av kliniske parametere, kunnskap om livsstil, alder mm. Vi beveger oss over mot persontilpasset legemiddelbehandling og personalized medicine. For å kunne realisere det fulle potensialet som ligger i dette konseptet, er det behov for utvikling av nye legemiddel-former, fleksible formuleringer og nye teknologiske løsninger. 

Sentralt i min forskning står utvikling av persontilpasset levering av legemidler til individer eller grupper av individer (f.eks. barn). Jeg samarbeider også med kliniske miljøer hvor vi ser på effekter av mangel på egnede doseringsformer og mangel på kunnskap/forskning tilpasset spesifikke grupper.

Undervisning

Jeg er emneleder for et tverrfaglige emne om sterile legemidler. Jeg underviser på videregående emner innen formulering og målstyring av legemidler, og på PhD-emnet i nanomedisin, sistnevnte i regi av UiT og Nasjonal forskerskole i farmasi (NFIF). Mine tema omfatter bl.a. nano- og mikropartikulære formuleringer, mucosal levering inkl. nasale, pulmonale og vaginale formuleringer, og legemiddelformer til barn og eldre.
