The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2022 brings together geoscientists from all over the world to a conference covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. Also this year several researchers from the LATICE community will present their work at the conference both on-site and online.

Team of authors from LATICE, GEco and NIBIO have a new paper published in one of the open-access EGU journals – Biogeosciences. In the paper named Improving the representation of high-latitude vegetation distribution in dynamic global vegetation models the authors evaluated the performance of three methods for representing vegetation cover.

In collaboration with LATICE, Anders Bryn and Peter Horvath have mapped ecosystem types within two areas at Finse, Norway, according to the 'Natur i Norge' system. The results are published in NHM Rapport 96, and the maps are available online.

Folkeforskningsprosjektet "Natur i endring" er tildelt Forskerforbundets Hjernekraft pris 2019. En stolt prosjektleder Anders Bryn og medarbeidere fra LATICE/GEO og GEco/NHM mottok prisen på Forskerforbundets forskningspolitiske seminar 12. november.

Klimaendringene påvirker vegetasjonen. Endringene i vegetasjonen påvirker også klimaet. For å skjønne denne sammenhengen skal klimaforsker Frode Stordal bruke kunstig intelligens.

PhD Day is an annual event organized each year by the UiO Science Library, in collaboration with the MN-faculty. There are scheduled lectures, and a poster session in which fellows at the faculty are invited to participate. This year Marius Lambert, Department of Geosciences won the award for the best poster. The competition was fierce.

Natur i endring representerte NHM på Forskningstorget på Karl Johan i helga. Mange hundre barn og voksne var innom for å teste artskunnskap og gjette hvor den høyeste tregrensa i Norge er.

De to tverrfaglige forskergruppene EarthFlows og LATICE får forlengelse som endringsmiljø ved Det matematisk-naturvitenskapelige fakultet, UiO. Med forlengelsen følger det med tre ph.d. stillinger til hvert forskningsmiljø frem til 2022.

The UiO Hive team helt 18 of September a kick off meeting (Workshop) for the UiO eInfrastructure hub Hive at Åpen Sonen, IFI. The goal for UiO Hive is to establish a hub around which participants can collaborate on this interdisciplinary project, where students can find fruitful projects topics and support to realize projects bridging across disciplines.

Mer enn 20 % av landområdene på den nordlige halvkule er underlagt permafrost, og vil ikke tine om sommeren. Hva skjer med klimaet, plantene og dyrene når denne permafrosten forsvinner? Håvard Kristiansen ved Institutt for geofag forsker på permafrost, og er forfatter av en Viten artikkel i Aftenposten.

Skogene i Norge beveger seg stadig høyere oppover. Med støtte fra Sparebankstiftelsen DNB skal hele Norge nå få være med å forske på tregrenser. Prosjektet åpner for deltagelse sommeren 2018, og konkurranse med flotte premier. Bli med på skogjakt!
