MISC - Microbial Surface Colonization (completed)

MISC is a Norwegian-Chinese-Japanese student and researcher exchange program on the study of microbial surface colonization.

About the project

MISC is an INTPART initiative with Nagoya University, Japan, and the Peking Union Medical College/Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, China.

The project received funding in 2019, with a budget of 4.5 million NOK, and is projected to end in September 2023.

Who can apply

MISC is an open exchange program for anyone at the bachelor, master, PhD and postdoc level from one of the affiliated institutions.

How to apply

See How to apply for more information.

Project objectives

The primary objective is to establish a sustainable student and researcher exchange program with Nagoya University, Japan and the Beijing Union Medical College/Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences based on existing student exchange agreements and scientific collaborations.

See Project objectives for more information.

Project summary

Microbial surface colonization plays an important role in basic biological processes such as symbiosis (plant-microbe symbiosis is important for agriculture), pathogenesis (colonization of the gut, of teeth, or the skin by disease agents), and in biofilms that have impact on the environment (e.g. by covering eutrophic lakes, etc.).

See Project summary for more information.

    Funding

The MISC project is funded by Diku and the Research Council of Norway through the INTPART (International Partnerships of Excellent Education and Research) program.
