Centre for Integrated Earth System Education – iEarth

We are partners in the national consortium iEarth for higher education in geoscience, and a Centre of Excellence in Education (2020-2026) aiming to transform geoscience education in Norway. iEarth explores, develops and promotes a student-centered, innovative learning environment for future Earth scientists and citizens to meet complex societal challenges and opportunities. The centre is led by the University of Bergen, and together with UiT The Arctic University of Norway and the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), the Department of Geosciences participates as a partner.

Activities and news – Geoscience Education

Student-staff partnership

Students bring unique and valuable experiences, perspectives and aspirations to their studies. We work to bring students' expertise into courses and study programs through collaborations between staff and students. Current projects include e.g. Hopes & Fears, investigating student motivation and experiences in the 1st year in the study program; "Why don't my students come to class?" that aims to engage students more in teaching activities; Learn-to-learn that supports students to learn more and more efficiently; Virtual Field Trips that explores use of VR to make fieldwork more efficient, enjoyable and inclusive; and Recruiting future Geoscientists that targets highs school students.

“Why don’t my students come to class?” investigates how we can motivate students to attend teaching and learning actiivties.

Contact Mattias Lundmark for more information.

Completed projects

"Explanations and understandings" examine how concepts and ideas from other science disciplines are introduced to, and can be (mis)understood by, first-year geoscience students.
