In this Odd seminar, we will look at how thematic analysis was described in the much cited 2006 paper by Braun and Clarke, how these authors have later developed and described it, and critique against (uncritical) use of thematic analysis. Finally, we will discuss the use of thematic analysis and which alternatives exist. 

Ilyes Jalisse is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo. His research interests lie in experimental studies of dynamics of elastic sheets, especially developing new experimental method for observations.

Doctoral candidate Sara Peeters-Martinsen at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis “Design, Synthesis, and Antimicrobial Evaluation of TPA-Functionalized Drugs as Potential Antimicrobial Resistance Breakers” for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Stuart is a Professor of Geochemistry in the School of GeoSciences, at the University of Edinburgh.

Anthony Val C. Camposano will defend his thesis "Parameterization of a Reactive Silica-Water Model using the Vashishta Functional Form" for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Doctoral candidate Zhuoxun Zheng at the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis Knowledge-Augmented Machine Learning and Analytics for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

UiO:Energy and Environment invites UiO master students, PhDs, and summer project students working on energy, climate and sustainability, to present their research at the Energy and Environment Forum on September 25, 2025!

I will present details about an ongoing joint work, where we intend to prove derived equivalence between two non-birational Calabi-Yau 3-folds. I will present a summary of the status of classification of CY3s and mirror symmetric motivations that prompt us to specifically study these two 3-folds. I will start with some classical projective geometry where we construct the titular 3-folds, following which I will move on to toric geometry where we showcase preliminary evidence for their derived equivalence. I will end with a discussion of GLSMs which is a relatively modern technique in the landscape of derived categories, which we hope will lead us to our desired proof.

The 2025 Almlöf—Gropen Lecture will be given by Prof. Angela Wilson, Department of Chemistry, Michigan State University, USA, September 2025. Dr. Inga Lena Schmidtke and MSc. Simon Elias Schrader from the Hylleraas Centre As also features part of the seminar. This year the Almlöf-Gropen Lecturer 2025 will be held on Tuesday September 23 in Oslo and Thursday September 25 in Tromsø.
