Virtual Ifi Workstation

If you need access to a workstation running Linux, and you are not able to come to Ifi to use one there, you may use a virtual desktop customized for Ifi users.

When you connect to the virtual desktop we strongly encourage everyone to use VMWare Horizon Client, a program that allows access to the VDI service. See links to the right (desktop) or bottom (mobile) of this article.

If you are unable to install the client it is possible to access the desktop using your browser, but the user experience will be diminished.

The address to the VDI service is https://view.uio.no. When you connect you will get several choices. The Ifi version of the virtual desktop is named 'Ifi Workstation'.

Problems?

The workstation is still being developed, and you might encounter problems while you use it. If you encounter a problem, please contact us at drift@ifi.uio.no, and we will look at the issue as soon as we can. Please include as much information about the problem as you can.

Other network mounted file areas, such as the home drives of other users and project disks, are not mounted on the virtual desktop.
